Forensic psychiatry is a specialized branch of psychiatry that deals with the interface between the law and mental health. Forensic psychiatrists work at the intersection of mental health and the legal system, applying their expertise to issues such as competency to stand trial, mental state at the time of an offense, criminal responsibility, civil commitment, and other legal matters involving mental health.
